Frequently asked questions

How do we receive our information?

Greenview Company requests this information, commonly referred to as outstanding or uncashed warrant reports, from various state, city, and county government agencies under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA). Unlike unclaimed property websites, the reports we monitor are generally unknown to most businesses and individuals, and the acquisition and deciphering of these reports can be costly, time consuming, and challenging.

How did these funds go missing?

The most common reason a check becomes lost is due to postal error, including outdated and incomplete addresses. Also common is that checks may become lost during a company name change, merger, or acquisition. The restructuring of a company can be a very busy time, and occasionally checks become misplaced due to employee job functions being changed or eliminated, as well as checks arriving at locations no longer able to process receivables.

Why hasn’t the issuing agency reached out my company directly?

Government agencies typically make little or no attempt to reunite uncashed funds with their intended recipient for several reasons. Many agencies will use the same outdated contact information they had prior to sending initial payment or do not have staffing that will allow for time dedicated to the replacement of uncashed warrants. Perhaps the biggest reason is that when an agency replaces a lost check, they lose what interest they are gaining on those funds that otherwise would remain in their interest bearing coffer accounts. Not all agencies work this way, but many do.

How does the replacement process work?

When you partner with Greenview Company, you can rest assured that we will make the entire claim process as simple as possible. Most often, Greenview will submit a replacement request directly to the holder of the funds, taking the time and frustration of dealing with government agencies away from our clients and acting as the client’s advocate throughout the entire replacement process. Since agencies have different filing procedures, the replacement process varies for each agency, but typically involves the use of a Limited Power of Attorney authorizing Greenview Company to make the claim on your behalf. Occasionally, an agency’s filing procedure will require that the claimant file the claim directly to them without representation of a recovery firm. In this instance, Greenview Company will prepare all of the necessary documents for our clients so that our client may file their claim direct with the jurisdiction.

How long will the replacement process take?

All agencies have a different time frame for check replacement, but most often, the claim process takes anywhere from four to eight weeks. Some agencies will have checks reissued in as little as a week, and of course others have a longer projected wait time. Depending on which agency issued your check, your client manager can provide you with a realistic time frame as to when you can expect your funds will be reissued.

Who are our clients?

We serve a range of clients ranging from small businesses to large size businesses that operate throughout the U.S and abroad. Occasionally, we provide recovery services for individuals and estates that may have lost assets they have not been made aware of. We also sub-contract with other recovery firms similar to ours that may have clients that are legally bound under “exclusive” agreements where they may not have the option to engage another firm.
